Instructions for use of Histoacryl Octyl wound adhesive
Step 1: The incision or trauma site must be clean and dry before applying the wound adhesive. Make sure the edges of the wound can be easily accessed.
Step 2: Remove the Histoacryl Octyl wound adhesive from the sterile packaging. Screw the applicator onto the tube in a clockwise direction until the applicator is firmly attached to the tube. The applicator will pierce the foil membrane and the wound adhesive will be able to flow.
Step 3: Hold the tip of the tube pointing downwards. Carefully squeeze the tube from the bottom until the glue becomes visible (blue colour) through the applicator. Keep the tube away from the patient until you are ready to apply the skin glue.
Step 4: Apply by gently squeezing the tube and moving the wound adhesive back and forth over the wound. Keep the edges of the wound closed until the adhesive becomes sticky – usually less than 20 seconds. A smooth and even layer of wound adhesive is desirable. The blue wound adhesive becomes transparent over time.
Step 5: Once the adhesive has dried completely, you can cover it with a second bandage. If a second bandage is used, DO NOT apply it to the adhesive site until it is completely free of adhesive. Applying a bandage while it is still sticky can lead to the removal of the wound adhesive when removing the secondary bandage and possibly to the reopen
